1. When does the regular school day begin and end?
  • School begins at 7:45am each morning. If your child is tardy, please sign him or her in at the K-2 office.
  • Car Riders will be dismissed every day at 2:35. Bus Riders will load the buses at 2:55.

2. Can I eat lunch with my child?
  • Sure! We always love to have our parents come eat lunch with us! Parents and/or relatives must sign in with Mrs. Alice in the K-2 office. Our lunch time begins at 10:30am. To find a copy of the lunch menu, please go to www.cherokeek12.org/calendar

3. What is the best way to get in touch with Ms. Leslie Ann?
  • Daily notes are an excellent way to communicate with me. Email is also a great way as I check my email daily. My email address is lrowland@cherokeek12.org. If you would like to contact me by phone, the elementary office number is (256) 523-3568. My plan time each day is 1:00 to 1:40. I will be available to take calls at this time.

4. Will there be Scholastic Book Orders sent home each month?
  • Yes. This is a great way to your child to obtain quality fiction books, as well as informational books. It also helps build up our classroom library with bonus points when you purchase books through our book order. The book order will be sent home in your child's folder. The return date will be on the back on the order form.

5. How often do first graders go to the library?
  • We will begin going to the library as a group after the first couple of weeks of school. Each class will go every other week. Students are allowed to check out books and take them home. When we begin A.R. (Accelerated Reading) testing, students will go more often, as they finish and test on their book.

6. Will my child be working on computers?
  • Yes! We have a WONDERFUL computer lab in our building that we will visit weekly. We will also use the computer lab for reading testing each week. We are also very fortunate to have four classroom computers. I plan to use some of our computer time to explore web based activities that correlate with our lessons. Students will also have opportunites to visit sites that are educational, yet fun! To see some of the sites we will be using, click on 'websites' on the sidebar.

7. Can I send a treat on my child's birthday?
  • If you would like to bring a treat for your child's birthday, please let me know a few days ahead. We have this during snack time, which is 1:45.

8. Can I volunteer in my child's classroom?
  • Yes! I love to have parents come and read to our class, especially during Read Across America Week. If you are interested in volunteering, please let me know! :)
